On a More Personal Note
For thousands of Kentucky teachers, myself included, debt is something that may be presummed after completing a Masters program. However, around 5,000 teachers in this state "bought" into a program through the Student Loan People, which promised complete loan forgiveness conditioned upon the teacher continuing to teach within Kentucky in a critical need area. But, the program was quickly vaporized and has left these thousands of teachers in significant debt, with a combined total debt that exceeds $100 million dollars. The issue is complex and layered and illegal. But, this article is the best I am aware of that explains the details behind what happened and how it COULD be remedied.
